Oeschinensee - where we'll be celebrating
Scouting's Sunrise
STOP PRESS: BBC Essex are going to phone the Essex Kanderjam Scouts at 6:20am UK time, they should be about three-quarters of the way up a mountain by then. So set your radio alarm and wake up to what's going on in Switzerland before joining us at Oaklands.
Celebrating the Centenary of Scouting deep in the heart of the awe-inspiring Alps. Kandersteg International Scout Centre is preparing for Kanderjam 2007, the Alpine link to the World Jamboree. During the Summer of 2007, a District contingent of 40 Scouts, Explorers and Leaders are heading off to Switzerland to take part in Kanderjam, "the Alpine Link to the World Jamboree", at Kandersteg International Scout Centre Switzerland.
The Jamboree is taking place at exactly the same time as the World Jamboree is here in Chelmsford, we will take part in a whole number of different activities, including Alpine Hikes, Tobogganing, an Eco Adventure, Climbing (on real mountains), White Water Rafting to name but a few.
On the 1st August, Scouting's Sunrise, we will hike into the mountains to watch the sunrise over the lake at Oeschinensee, what a place to celebrate!
Packing bags
In the meantime, the unit are hard at work getting to know each other and fundraising. Many thanks must go to the customers at Sainsbury's, who allowed us to bag pack for them just before Christmas, we raised over 1000pounds!!! This will allow us to cram in some extra activities whilst out in Switzerland.
More events are planned, so watch this space to keep up to date with the unit.
